FAMILY TREE- PRETTY SURE THIS WAS JOE BLOW’S BROTHER! AND MORE ON FORGERY

The article below shows what they did in the 1730s with forgers.

What will happen to the forger in the latest case with Naomi Judd?

FAMILY TREE- I WONDER IF THE PRODUCERS OF HOUSE OF DRAGONS AND GAME OF THRONES HAVE STAFF GENEALOGISTS?

There is a lot to keep track of between these shows and others on how people are related. Who is trying to kill a cousin, sibling, uncle or aunt. Then there was King Geoffrey the child of siblings, now that’s a very thin family tree.

Fire Department

FAMILY TREE- WE THINK THINGS ARE ROUGH NOW, IN 1805 SOMEONE STOLE THE FIRE TRUCK FROM THE CHARLESTON, SC FIREHOUSE

New Amsterdam which became New York City had the following fire regulations:

On January 23, 1648, Governor Stuyvesant and his council ordered that no chimneys of wood and plaster were to be built between the Fort and Kalck Hoek Pond. Martin and two others were made fire wardens representing the commonalty. This was the first constituted fire department. They were given the power to inspect all chimneys and levy a fine of three guilders for every flue found dirty and to impose a fine of 25 florins if a house burned because of the owner’s carelessness. The money collected went towards the purchase of hooks, buckets and ladders.

DNA for evidenceFAMILY TREE- FORENSIC GENEALOGY: HOW POLICE ARE USING FAMILY TREES TO SOLVE COLD CASES

Dancestors Genealogy uses forensic genealogists who are experienced at helping solve crimes and identifying descendants from unidentified remains from soldiers lost in battle.

However, there is concern that new privacy requirements are shrinking the DNA pool that crime samples can be compared against. Last year, GEDmatch opted its entire database out of law enforcement matching, and required each person using the service to actively opt in. The result is that one service Parabon now has just 200,000 people to compare against on GEDmatch, compared with 1,000,000 in 2018.

“It’s now much more difficult to solve these cases and narrow them down as specifically as we used to,” she says. “We don’t have enough data, which means a lot more work has to go into it.” Investigators may need to ask certain lines of descendants for DNA samples.

This photo is one of my favorites. It shows one of our client’s ancestors sitting on their porch in Santa Monica, CA.

Andy Jackson

FAMILY TREE- REVISITING HISTORY

I saw this modified portrait of Andrew Jackson recently at the Crystal Bridges Museum.
Portraits often represent leaders as heroic, noble, and deserving of respect and admiration. Such images, however, fashion an incomplete historical narrative that may not acknowledge the problematic or even violent aspects of their legacies.
Signed by Andrew Jackson in 1830, the Indian Removal Act authorized the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. Native Americans were forcibly removed by the U.S. government, including 4,000 Cherokee Indians who died on what became known as the “Trail of Tears.”
Copying and altering Ralph Earl’s 1836 portrait of Andrew Jackson is one way that Titus Kaphar calls our attention to the power of art and museums in writing a history that is, in his words, “at best incomplete, and at worst fiction.” The viewer is reminded of who is typically included in this telling of history and who is typically excluded.
