Email. Our business emails come from our business email account () and are sent through our email provider. We may retain copies of our correspondence as described in Section 9. You can ask us at any time to stop sending nonessential emails by replying or contacting us directly. We may continue to send communications needed to respond to your inquiry, provide services you requested, or comply with legal obligations.

Phone calls and texts. If you give us your phone number, Dan may call or text you personally about your inquiry, appointment or project. Texts are written and sent individually from Dan’s own phone. We do not use automated or mass texting, and we do not send marketing texts. Your carrier’s standard message and data rates may apply. To stop calls or texts, reply to a text (for example, “STOP”) or tell us, and we will stop.

Newsletter. Individuals who contact us, including through our Website contact form, or who use our services may receive our newsletter and occasional business updates. Newsletters are distributed through a third-party email marketing service. Each newsletter includes an unsubscribe option that you may use at any time. You may also request removal from our mailing list by contacting us directly. Unsubscribing from the newsletter does not prevent us from sending communications needed to respond to an inquiry or provide services you requested.

5. Your Files, Family History and DNA Information

• We use the files, family information and DNA information you share with us only to provide the services you ask for.
• Files you send us are stored privately: in our client records system, in a folder that is not accessible from the public Website, and on our own computers.
• Your family history may include information about living relatives. Please share only what you are comfortable sharing; we use it only for your research.
• Please provide personal information, family records or DNA information concerning living individuals only when you are authorized to do so. We may ask you to confirm that you have appropriate permission before we use or disclose sensitive information about living individuals.
• We never sell DNA information. We access your DNA data, upload it to another DNA service, or contact your DNA matches only with your written permission in a separate agreement.
• We do not use your photos in our marketing, and we do not use your name with your family’s story without your permission. Most stories we share are about distant ancestors, drawn from public records we find in our research.
• If you hire us, your service agreement also applies to your project and your information.
