Family History Books

Every family has a story worth preserving.

Dancestors brings together genealogical research, family photographs, historical records, and personal memories in a custom heirloom book designed to be shared for generations.

An open Dancestors family history book showing old family photographs, with leather-bound books on a table.

Below is a sampling of pages from one of the 162 Dancestors Heirloom Family History Books we’ve created. We’re happy to share entire books as downloads, either our own family’s or those of families who have given us permission.

Use the left and right arrow keys to turn pages. Scroll the mouse wheel up over the book to make it larger, down to make it smaller. Pages are pictures of the PDF; use Open PDF for the text.

What Families Say

What Goes Into a Dancestors Family History Book?

Personalized Leather Covers

Your cover and title pages can be custom designed in any color combination. One client chose the colors of a Diet Coke can; another wanted Irish green to celebrate their Irish heritage. The leather covers are durable and professional looking, and the books come in two sizes: 8.5 × 11 inches, which fits better on a bookshelf, and 10 × 13 inches, which looks better on a coffee table.

Thoughtful Organization

The table of contents is designed around the significant changes in the book’s subjects, typically people or places.

Multi-Generation Pedigree Charts

The pedigree chart is a family tree turned on its side, typically seven generations to start, with headshots for the first three generations.

Stories and Historical Discoveries

Each individual has a written narrative, illustrated with the newspaper articles, maps, family homes, farms, businesses, churches, headstones, and stories we find by searching more than 100 internet sites. You’re welcome to add your own heirlooms and images too.

Descendants and Extended Family

Books often include the same kind of information for the ancestor’s children and other descendants, or even all of the ancestor’s descendants, along with descendant charts.

How It Works

  1. A Free Conversation

We start with a free, no-obligation conversation about your goals, timeline, budget, and what you already know.

  2. Your Agreement and Priorities

If you decide to go ahead, we send you an agreement to sign online, where you can list your priorities.

  3. Gathering What You Have

You share the information, documents, photographs, and heirlooms you have so far, and we organize them around your family’s story.

  4. Research and Writing

Our researchers, with an average of 24 years of experience, build and verify your family tree, follow harder-to-find sources, document the evidence, and write the narrative for each individual.

  5. Your Finished Book

Everything comes together in your heirloom book, with the cover, colors, and size you choose, ready to be shared for generations.

A Book as Individual as Your Family

All of our books are custom, because every family has different interests, and different treasures they already have or that we discover.
