Past-Imperfect-Cleveland-childThe ad above was written in 1942. It only took 79 years to become famous or infamous depending upon your perspective.

Torturing candidates and office-holders with easy-to-chat taglines have been happening for a long time.

Grover Cleveland was accused of fathering a child out of wedlock. The crowds chanted at him: “Ma, ma, where’s my Pa?”. Cleveland went on to win his second term. He was the only president to marry in the White House, when in his first term at age 49, he married a 21-year old, who he had been a guardian of since she was an infant. That is taking guardianship to the full measure!

HOW MUCH MONEY WOULD IT TAKE FOR YOU TO DROP YOUR NAME AND ASSUME ANOTHER TO GAIN AN ESTATE?

I came across an odd will this week in the Mississippi State Archives. In 1834, Samuel Green Cabell (SGC) wrote his will. He had no children of his own. Instead, SGC left allowances for his wife and mother-in-law. Then SGC stated that $1500 and the rest of the estate after the demise of those above would go to his nephew Samuel Cabell Green Jones (SCGJ), on the condition- that Samuel would drop the Jones from his name and go by Samuel Cabell Green. SGC then added that if SCGJ did not want to, he would extend the offer to SCGC’s older brother Joseph, who would have become a Samuel with a younger brother Samuel.
After SGC, his wife, and mother-in-law passed on, SCGJ took the offer and became Samuel Cabell Green. But, unfortunately, he died shortly after that, and his estate went to his siblings.

09xp-treedna-wilke-jumbo-v5WE ALL KNOW ABOUT USING DNA TO SOLVE A FAMILY TREE, BUT HOW ABOUT FOR CRIMES AGAINST TREES?

Timber poachers set a forest on fire. Tree DNA sent one of them to prison.
Loggers seeking a prized hardwood started the fire in the Olympic National Forest, prosecutors said. The use of timber DNA evidence was a first in a federal criminal trial.
