ANCESTORS THAT DON'T LOOK A DAY OVER 112! World's Oldest Living Man Is Nearly 113, Has 41 Grandchildren and Enjoys a Popular Drink 'Every Day' This Venezuelan man is almost 113 years young! Juan Vicente Pérez Mora, who is 112 years and 355 days old as of Tuesday, was just named the oldest living man by Guinness World Records. "My dad is in very good health," daughter Nelyda Perez, one of his 11 children, told the record-keeping organization. "He does not suffer from any disease that requires medical treatment." "The whole family is very grateful," she added. The supercentenarian, who is the ninth of 10 children,...

IT'S NOT EASY TO BE HUGH! While searching for ancestors, I discovered that HUGH V of Lusignan my 33rd Great Grandfather married Almodis (her tomb at right) who was born about 1020 and was famous for her marriage career. They married about 1038 and they divorced due to consanguinity (meaning that they were close cousins of some sort). She later, with HUGH V's assistance, married Count Pons of Toulouse in 1040. Almodis was still Pons' wife in April 1053, when she was abducted by Count Ramon Berenguer I of Barcelona. Ramon kidnapped her from Narbonne with the aid of a fleet sent north...

I WAS ALWAYS CURIOUS ABOUT WHERE HER NAME CAME FROM, AND HOW DNA TELLS THE STORY Caryn Elaine Johnson was born in Manhattan, New York City, on November 13, 1955, the daughter of Robert James Johnson Jr. , a Baptist clergyman, and Emma Harris, a nurse, and teacher. She was raised in the public housing project, Chelsea-Elliot Houses, in NYC. She has stated that her stage forename ("Whoopi") was taken from a whoopee cushion: "When you're performing on stage, you never really have time to go into the bathroom and close the door. So if you get a little gassy, you've got...

Happy belated Valentine's Day! Above is an advertisement from 1750 London (in those days the letter "s" was written as "f"). If you would like to know if this is how your ancestors got married, click on the red button below and let Dancestors get the answer!   DNA is big business. In December 2020, Blackstone purchased Ancestry.com. Now, 23andme (which interestingly was co-founded by Anne Wojcicki, the spouse of Google co-founder Sergey Brin) is going public by merging with Richard's company Branson. Maybe they will become Virgin DNA? Does gaining the knowledge of our DNA and our ancestry give us the proper...

In Britain, impeachment was more the norm than the exception. You can read above the notice regarding Robert, the Earl of Oxford's (pictured to the right) 1717 trial. Every time there was a change in who was King, or who were the trusted government officials, the prior administrators were at a minimum put into the Tower of London for a while (Oxford served a couple of years), at a maximum they were put to death, If you saw your power waning it was a good time to go abroad, meanwhile all of your estates would be distributed to the new "favourites."...

The article above is about George Washington's 1789 inauguration, our nation's first. Certainly a different military presence. I just got a note from Ancestry.com telling me that I have built 76 family trees, placed 108,000 family members and ancestors into those trees, attached 110,000 records, and uploaded 15,000 photos. Other than my own tree that is all since 2015. Contact me and let's get started on your tree, and we can set some Guinness records together! You can use Dancestors Genealogy to find out more about your ancestors, or you can buy a Tesla and drive it into the graveyard. https://youtu.be/gYGS-FJq3vg   I spend a...

I liked this Halloween costume. Some people will look at this and see a scary playoff bracket, but some like me might see it as the Zombie Family Tree. Let Dancestors find out if you have any alleged Zombies, Vampires, Ninjas, or Pirates in your family tree.   With two daughters that grew up on "The Real Housewives" drama, I should probably do a series on "The Real Housewives in the Family Tree." Let Dancestors check out your family tree and see if your great-grandma married her step-grandfather!   https://people.com/tv/real-housewives-salt-lake-city     When telling the grandkids about their witch ancestry, I ended up finding a song about their...

Read our blog on Days of the Dead; https://dancestorsgenealogy.com/explained/days-of-the-dead/     Here is the oldest article I could find referencing Halloween. The article appeared in a London paper in 1799 and referred to a new splendid Scotch spectacle, the New Royal Circus, and Mrs. Ratcliff's celebrated Highland...

Many historians suggest that, six months after President Woodrow Wilson suffered from the Spanish Flu (mentioned in our last edition), he had a paralyzing stroke. For the rest of his term, all presidential business was conducted through her. She later described her status as one of...

Happy Independence Day!   History Does Repeat Itself! The 4th of July and the pulling down of objectionable statues in protest have coincided before! The Declaration had thrust all blame onto the king, and its public proclamation set off an open, symbolic murder, and funeral, for the king—an inversion of a King's Birthday celebration. People in New York City tore down the equestrian statue of George III and hacked it to pieces. A legend was that metal bits from the figure became bullets. In other places, the crowds burned and cut at the monarch's picture and royal arms.
